USC sophomore Sean Crocker fired his third consecutive round under par to finish second at 6 under for the No. 5 Trojans men’s golf team finished at the season-opening Husky Invitational in Suncadia, Wash., on Sept. 22.

The Trojans, who finished fourth, wrapped up play at 18-over 870 (300-284-286) to finish five shots back of Oregon and Washington, which tied for first at 13-over 865. Oregon State was third at 17-over 869. USC’s final two rounds were the best combined among the 14 teams.

Crocker, who had eight top 10 finishes last year, had rounds of 69-68-70; junior Rico Hoey shot an even-par 213 (74-70-69) to finish fourth.

USC senior Andrew Levitt, in his first career start, tied for 34th at 12-over 225 (77-73-75); sophomore Jonah Texiera tied for 43rd at 14-over 227 (81-74-72); and freshman Justin Suh tied for 50th at 16-over 229 (80-73-76).

In the Husky Individual tournament, Trojans freshman Ryan Slater tied for 22nd at 19-over 235 (75-81-79).

“It was nice to have Sean and Rico play well,” USC coach Chris Zambri said. “We need way more from the rest of the guys in order to have a great team. We’ll take the lessons learned this week and be better at our next event.”

USC returns to action Oct. 4-6 at the Nike Swoosh in Portland, Ore.
