At the conclusion this month’s Toshiba Classic that saw Jay Haas defeat Bart Bryant in the first playoff hole, Toshiba America, Inc., announced a three-year extension as title sponsor of the PGA Tour Champions event at Newport Beach Country Club. In addition, it was announced that the Toshiba Classic is returning to its traditional March date beginning in 2018.

“We are excited to extend our long-standing relationship with Hoag, Newport Beach Country Club and the Champions Tour for three more years,” said Fumio Otani, chairman and CEO of Toshiba America, Inc.

At the conclusion of the three-year extension, Toshiba will have had a 25-year run as title sponsor, making it among the longest standing sponsorships in the tour’s history. The Toshiba Classic’s lead charity and operator is the Hoag Hospital Foundation, and in 1998, the foundation received the inaugural PGA Champions Tour Charity of the Year Award in 1998. Since Hoag took over as host and operator of the tournament, the Toshiba Classic has generated more than $18 million for charity, the most on the Champions Tour.

“We’ve enjoyed and benefitted greatly from our partnership with our friends at Toshiba,” said tournament chairman Ira Garbutt“This extension and move to a more favorable date in the spring ensures this great tournament will continue to establish itself as an institution of Orange County sports and the crown jewel of the PGA Champions Tour until 2020.”
