How is it that time of year again? Shopping for your golf buddy or special duffer in your life can sometimes be more agonizing than shanking your drive on No. 18 that spoiled your shot at a record round.

So, if you’re at the end of your rope searching for that perfect Christmas gift this year, go functional, durable and personable, which makes items made of leather a great idea.

“If you’re looking for a gift of value that is genuine and long lasting, a leather product is a good choice for that special person on your list,” said Colonel Littleton, the founder of Tennessee-based Col. Littleton. “People love the look and feel and smell of leather, and almost everyone appreciates receiving a product that can be used and enjoyed for many years to come.”

The veteran craftsman, who was born Garry Allen, designs many of his company’s products and touts the natural fabric that is popular in personal accessories.

“Front pocket wallets, phone cases, pocket journals, leather pouches and belts – all great stocking stuffers,” he said. “My hope is that all products have staying power and become special items.”

Sports collectables, upscale shaving kits, travel bags, writing instruments, sunglasses, coasters, mugs and digital alarm clocks are also can’t-miss gift items that break the tired traditions of sweaters, ties and cologne. That’s because many of those products can be upgraded to enhance the sentimental value.

“We recognize the fun and personalization that go into customized gifts that can help you craft the special message you’re trying to convey,” said Patrick Sanders, national marketing program manager for Allen Edmonds.

Littleton agrees, which is why he urges customers to think about the impact that extra consideration can have on the gift recipient.

“When you buy someone a personalized gift, they know you put some thought into the purchase,” he said. “You didn’t just rush into the store and grab something off the shelf. We find that most of our customers, when given the option to personalize gift purchases, almost always choose to do so. When you give someone a personalized item, they will always remember who gave it to them and when.”
