One of the simplest visuals I give my students, especially on the course, is the thought of returning the golf club to its original angle at address.

As opposed to telling them to drop their shoulder, hit behind the ball or not swing too fast or twist the clubhead, for example, what often works best is a defined goal of where the shaft needs to pass through impact. Once this becomes clear, the body and a smoother tempo fall right into place.

A great drill for this is to stick an alignment rod in the ground just above the club at address. Continue to swing or hit balls without making contact with the rod. Doing this repeatedly will keep your swing on plane and produce a consistent path and more powerful shots.
