The First Tee of Los Angeles has been selected as a 2016 charity partner for the PowerShares QQQ Championship Oct. 28-30 at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks.

As part of the partnership, The First Tee of Los Angeles Celebrity Pro-Am will take place at the course Oct. 24 and serve as the kickoff event of the inaugural tournament. The Pro-Am will feature 18 five-player teams comprised of three amateurs playing with a Champions Tour professional and a celebrity.

Since becoming a First Tee chapter in 2009, the Los Angeles location has worked with 90,000 young people in the national group’s mission of impacting youths with life lesson and work skills. In addition to teaching golf, The First Tee also works with the Nine Core Values of honesty, respect, perseverance, integrity, confidence, courtesy, sportsmanship, responsibility and judgment, in addition to instilling healthy habits.

“We couldn’t be more proud to kick off the week with the exciting Celebrity Pro-Am,” said O.D. Vincent, executive director of the PowerShares QQQ Championship. “Our partnership with The First Tee further enhances the tournament’s vision to become a charity-centric event that reflects the L.A. lifestyle.”

The PowerShares QQQ Championship will consist of the top 72 players in the Charles Schwab Cup standings in the first leg of the new Charles Schwab Cup Playoffs. The top 54 from the Sherwood event will advance to the Dominion Charity Classic in Richmond, Va.
