The company’s latest line of drivers, fairways and hybrids are designed with speed and accuracy in mind.

Fresh out of The Oven, Nike’s Vapor Speed driver has the largest and most stable chassis of that new line. Black on the crown with the distinctive volt in the cavity back and compression channel, the Vapor Speed driver promotes a higher launch angle with lower spin.

“We’ve re-engineered the chassis of the Vapor Speed by sloping the crown more from face to the back and creating a deeper face,” said Nate Radcliffe, director of engineering for Nike Golf. “This moves the center of gravity projection toward the center of the face and reduces spin to launch ratio versus the Covert 2.0.”

Like the Vapor Pro driver, the Vapor Speed line blends Nike’s FlyBeam-reinforced Covert cavity back design and FlexLoft 2, which allows players the functionality of five lofts and three face angles within 15 settings. The new system is also 5 grams (30 percent) lighter without compromising function, and the redistribution of mass creates more stability, better launch conditions and faster swing speeds.

The Vapor Speed line also includes fairway woods and hybrids, with the former having a 25 percent larger footprint and a lower and deeper center of gravity than previous Nike models. The Vapor Flex hybrids also have a lower center of gravity in addition to lower and straighter leading edges.

“Athletes including Tiger Woods requested larger face profiles in fairway woods, but it was vital that we do that without compromising ball speed or launch conditions,” Radcliffe said. “We modified the chassis by sloping the crown to lower the CG which optimized launch characteristics across the family.”

By reshaping the chassis and adjusting the FlexLoft 2 mechanism in the Vapor Flex hybrids, golfers can tune loft and face angle to optimize distance and shot shape during the fitting process.

“The Vapor Speed hybrids are engineered for speed, increased trajectory and forgiveness,” Radcliffe said. “Athletes looking to maximize and control trajectory from all lies will benefit from the combination of these technologies.”
