Five Southland courses will be among participants in the sixth annual World’s Largest Golf Outing on Monday, Aug. 1. Golfers can sign up as a single, twosome or foursome at area courses that include Alta Vista Country Club, Ashwood Golf Course, Birch Hills Golf Course, Classic Club and Yucaipa Valley Golf Club.

Part proceeds and all donations from players and non-players benefit Fisher House Foundation and its mission to provide comfort homes for military families to be near loved ones receiving medical care at major military and VA medical centers. Teams are encouraged to raise additional funds, with donations being made at www.worldslargestgolfouting.com/donate.

All registered golfers are also entered into a drawing to win a trip for four to the Nike Campus in Beaverton, Ore., for custom club fitting and other merchandise. The highest national fundraising team will win a trip for four to Destination Kohler, host of the 2020 Ryder Cup, to play the Irish Course at Whistling Straits and either the River Course or Meadow Valleys Course at Blackwolf Run. Additional prizes can be earned by teams with the highest contribution levels and best scores of the day at each course.

“With more than 40,000 participants and $3 million raised since 2011, the World’s Largest Golf Outing has evolved into a national movement supporting our heroes,” said Jonathan Schoenfeld, executive director of the World’s Largest Golf Outing. “Here’s to eclipsing the high bar set in last year’s record-breaking event that raised more than $1 million in a single day.”

Fisher House Foundation also operates the Hero Miles program that uses donated frequent flyer miles to bring family members to the bedside of injured service members, as well as the Hotels for Heroes program that uses donated hotel points to allow family members to stay at hotels near medical centers without charge. In addition, the Foundation manages a grant program that supports other military charities and scholarship funds for military children, spouses and children of fallen and disabled veterans.
