Cypress residents Amelia Ek and Jada Patipaksiri are appearing and competing as a team on Golf Channel’s “Altered Course Montego Bay.” The 24-year-olds, who are playing professionally on the Symetra Tour and other mini-tours, have known each other since childhood and, because of their competitive natures, admit to not always being the best of friends, which puts the team name – Frenemies – into context.

Both women list El Dorado Park Golf Course in Long Beach as their home courses, and Ek competed collegiately at UC Riverside and Patipaksiri at UC Irvine.

Taking place in Montego Bay, Jamaica, the tournament-style competition series features eight two-person teams racing against the clock as they take on the twists and turns of reimagined and extreme golf holes. Teams are scored on a combination of strokes and the time it takes to complete the hole. Teams will be eliminated weekly, with the winning pair pocketing more than $100,000 in cash and prizes.

Filming began in February at the Hyatt Zilara Rose Hall and Hyatt Ziva Rose Hall Resort, with the golf competition staged at White Witch and Cinnamon Hill. “Altered Course Montego Bay” will air for eight consecutive Mondays, concluding Aug. 3.
