The Dick Gorrie Invitational Golf Tournament at Coto de Caza Golf & Racquet Club on Oct. 26 will feature pre-event clinic by Champions Tour player Fred Funk. The tournament, in its 37th year, is a fundraiser for the Speech and Language Development Center in Buena Park.

Prior to becoming the men’s golf coach at Santiago Canyon College, Gorrie led the Dons to 51 victories when he coached the school’s football team. He was also a West Coast scout for the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams and Buffalo Bills.

“What the center does for these kids is truly phenomenal,” Gorrie said about the special education school and therapy center that will benefit from the money raised. “Sponsors and participants in this year’s tournament are not only getting a great game of golf and a clinic with Fred Funk, they’re also helping children with autism and other disabilities.”

The Speech and Language Development Center serves children and young adults, age 3 months through 21 years. Services include remediation for language, learning, emotional, social and neurologically based needs to students with a broad scope of diagnoses.

Registration is $1,200 per foursome. The cost includes the clinic with Funk, green fees, lunch and a banquet dinner. Sponsorship opportunities also are available and include additional benefits. To register, call (714) 821-3620 ext. 264 or visit www.sldc.net.
