Good bunker shots appear effortless, but only after a lot of practice. Here are some tips to get that comfortable feeling in the sand:

In a practice bunker, draw two parallel lines a couple inches apart. The forward line represents ball position and the other is where the club should enter the sand.

Take an open stance at the front line, which should bisect your front foot. Open the clubface slightly with most of your weight on your front foot.

Take practice swings so the clubface enters the sand on the back line and continues to the front.

After each swing, note where your club enters the sand. Repeat until you consistently hit the back line.

Now take it to the course and position the ball forward, slightly open the clubface, keep weight on your front foot as you swing, make contact with the sand 2 inches behind the ball, follow through and watch the ball fly out of the bunker and toward the pin.
