Volunteers are sought for the 2017 CareerBuilder Challenge, the Coachella Valley’s annual PGA Tour event, set for Jan. 19-22. The administrative fee for the volunteer package is $30, a significant reduction from previous years. The package includes a Nike golf shirt and jacket, a hat or visor, volunteer badge that allows grounds access to watch the tournament when not working, a guest badge, parking pass, breakfast and lunch on volunteer days and a certificate for 50 percent off a round of golf at one of the five public courses at PGA West and La Quinta Resort & Club.

“We’re excited to be able to offer a new reason for our returning volunteers to come back again, and for those who haven’t volunteered with us before to give it a try,” said Nick Raffaele, executive director of the CareerBuilder Challenge and CEO of Desert Classic Charities. “Each year, we have nearly 1,000 volunteers spread out over our three golf courses who help make this event run smoothly. We’re thankful for their support, and because of what they do, we’re able to give significant funds to charities here in the Coachella Valley.”

Volunteers are required to work at least three shifts of approximately four hours each. They can choose from a variety of committees on which to serve, from walking scorers to player services. The CareerBuilder Challenge has raised more than $57 million for Eisenhower Medical Center and other local charities since its inception as the Palm Springs Golf Classic in 1960. The tournament is also one of 16 participating eventss in the PGA Tour Volunteer Challenge, a “vote for me” competition designed to raise funds for charity while recognizing the commitment of the more than 100,000 tournament volunteers nationwide.

Cathedral City resident John Hamaliuk, a 15-year volunteer of the CareerBuilder Challenge, won this year and was awarded the opportunity to donate $10,000 in his name to his favorite charitable entity, which was the Boys & Girls Club of Cathedral City.
