Southland native Duffy Waldorf has been inducted into the Toshiba Classic Hall of Fame, joining a list of past champions that includes Fred Couples, Bernhard Langer, Hale Irwin, Bob Murphy and Gary McCord.

Waldorf, 54, was a two-time All-American and 1985 College Player of the Year while attending UCLA. He continued his success on the PGA Tour with four wins despite battling a reoccurring knee injury throughout his career.  In 2012, Waldorf joined the PGA Champions Tour and, in 2015, earned his first victory in 292 starts, edging Joe Durant for a two-shot victory at the Toshiba Classic at Newport Beach Country Club.

“Waldorf represents the essence of what the Toshiba Classic is all about,” said Ira Garbutt, the event’s tournament chairman. “He is a true gentlemen and great ambassador for the game of golf and we are proud to have him join the rest of our great Hall of Fame members.”

Waldorf ‘s 54-hole total of 20-under par set a Toshiba Classic record that enhanced his Hall of Fame resume. He also tied the 18-hole scoring record at 11 under and matched the PGA Champions Tour record for most birdies in a 54-hole event, with 26.

Waldorf received his plaque in late August during an evening presentation at the newly renovated Newport Beach Country Club clubhouse, which will play a big part in this year’s tournament, which is set for Oct. 7-9. Tickets for the event are on sale at http://www.toshibaclassic.com/tickets.
