Tom Addis III, CEO and executive director of the SCPGA, has received the California Golf Course Owners Association’s For the Good of the Game Award for 2016.

The honor is presented to a person or group that has worked in support of player development programs and initiatives that help shape the future of golf in a positive way. Addis received the award at the CGCOA’s annual meeting in January in Milpitas.

For several years, Addis has been at the forefront of growth and inclusion initiatives in the region through the SCPGA’s Golf in Schools and Neighborhood Golf programs, other others.

“Tom’s ongoing contributions to the game of golf span both deep and wide,” said CGCOA awards committee chairman Emmy Moore Minister. “That makes this honor quite appropriate and well-deserved.”

Addis has also been an advocate for golfers with disabilities and is a supporter of Special Olympics, in addition to being a supporter of the Southern California-based Latina Golfers Association. Throughout his tenure in the golf business, he also has served on the board of directors for the San Diego Junior Golf Association, Lorena Ochoa Foundation and the California Alliance for Golf, where he’s a founding member and past president of the statewide advocacy organization.

This award is among several Addis has received in the past, including the Joe Graffis Award (National Golf Foundation), Horton Smith Award (PGA of America), Langley Legends Award (NCPGA), Conrad Rehling Award (Special Olympics) and National PGA Golf Professional of the Year (PGA).
