The field for the Toshiba Classic is starting to take shape, with Champions Tour rookie and two-time major champion John Daly headlining the list of newcomers to the event, set for Oct. 5-9 at Newport Beach Country Club.

The tournament, which annually ranks as one of the most prestigious events on the Champions Tour, will also have defending champion Duffy Waldorf returning, along with several World Golf Hall of Fame members such as Fred Couples, Bernhard Langer, Colin Montgomerie, Hale Irwin, Mark O’Meara and Tom Kite.

“The Toshiba Classic continues to set a precedent for drawing the biggest names on the Champions Tour,” said Jeff Purser, the tournament’s executive director.

Joining Daly as rookies at the Toshiba Classic will be Billy Mayfair, Michael Bradley and Tim Petrovic. Daly also will be the keynote speaker at the Toshiba Classic “Breakfast with a Champion” on Oct. 4 at 7 a.m. at Balboa Bay Resort. Daly joins a list of golf legends that previously served as guest of honor for the event, including Irwin, O’Meara, Lee Trevino, Tom Watson, Gary Player, and Chi Chi Rodriguez. A limited number of 10 person tables are still available at a cost of $1,500. To purchase tickets, contact Gus Scheidemann at gscheidemann@toshibaclassic.com.

The Toshiba Classic’s lead charity and host is Hoag Charity Sports and Hoag Hospital Foundation. This year’s tournament proceeds will be directed to the Mary & Dick Allen Diabetes center at Hoag Hospital. Tickets are on sale at http://www.toshibaclassic.com/tickets. One-day grounds tickets are $25 if purchased in advance and $30 if purchased at the event.
