In a crowded golf apparel world, name recognition is huge. The leadership at Carnoustie Sportswear is hip, so the company sports the moniker of an iconic Scottish course and updates styles and fabrics each year.

Marshall Mancillas, the owner and CEO of the Irvine-based company, said designers strive for a timeless elegance for its men’s and women’s garments, with the latter offerings coming several years after the company’s founding 20 years ago.

“The market has embraced our women’s pieces,” Mancillas said. “They have become staples in her wardrobe and transition off the course as well as our men’s styles.”

For spring, women’s cotton polos and mocks blend Pima cotton and Lycra to ensure the garment has a bit of stretch to retain shape and be flattering in the right places. The three-quarter sleeve options are also a comfortable silhouette to wear, with a delicate open placket that is a nice length for flattery and tastefulness.

“The mocks are a proven style, appropriate all year long, and the perfect first layer under our jackets,” Mancillas said. “The zipper treatment is simple yet elegant with its dye-to-match exposed zipper.”

Another staple of Carnoustie clothing, Mancillas said, is that garments and collars retain their shape and colors don’t fade. The recent introduction of Peruvian Pima to collections and the constant search for the best performance fabrics will continue to set the Orange County manufacturer apart, he said.
